File and remit
Learn about filing and remitting tax.
You must file and remit the tax you collect for every location where you’re registered. Each location has its own rules for reporting and filing taxes. For example, some US locations require businesses to report taxes at the city or county level. Others only need information at the state level. Additionally, each location determines when you must pay (or remit) taxes, which might vary by the volume of your sales into that location.
Filing frequency
Each local tax authority determines how often you must file your taxes and when you must register to collect tax. You might need to remit tax monthly, quarterly, annually, or on another frequency. How often you file can vary based on annual revenue and other factors. If you’re unsure about your filing frequency, contact your local tax authority to confirm.
Refunds
Stripe Tax exports and reports include refunds. When you issue a refund to a customer, you might need to file an amended return to account for that refund. To claim a refund on your amended tax return, contact your local tax authority.
Filing with Stripe
Stripe Tax works with filing partners that help automate much of the tax filing process. Each partner focuses on different regions and types of businesses.
Note
Pricing varies by partner and filing location. The Stripe Tax subscription plan, Tax Complete, includes a certain number of filing entitlements (credits) you can use toward TaxJar and Taxually. Marosa and Hands-off Sales Tax have separate pricing. Check your plan in the Dashboard under Stripe plans.
